Sheepdog Trial Success for Local Shepherd

The recent Glendale Agricultural Society (GAS) annual Sheepdog Trials was held at Hurlstone Park, Lilburn, was won by Michael Davidson, from Wooler with his dog Ardmore Corrie, who also took home the title of highest pointed local shepherd.

A key event in the Society’s calendar, the 2016 Sheepdog Trials saw the entrant dogs expertly judged by Stewart Wallace of Prendwick.  The dog trials took place on Saturday 9th July at Hurlstone Park, Lilburn Tower, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Davidson

Spectators saw a total of 52 dogs running on the day, from England, Wales and the North of Scotland.  A tremendous show of mule gimmers was provided by Lilburn Estate, which were skilfully guided by the dog and handler around the course who picked up points for behaviour, efficiency of their work and good stockmanship.

Commenting on behalf of the GAS, Society Secretary, Rachael Tait said:  “This is always a key event for the Society and it is only possible due to the generous support of the volunteers, as well as, Mr and Mrs Davidson of Lilburn Estate for the use of their land and sheep.”

Heading up the event is local shepherd, Chris Tait who said:  “We have seen a real revival in Sheepdog trialling here in Northumberland and it is always encouraging to see the next generation coming through the ranks.  I would like to thank all the volunteers who make this event possible, as well as the competitors who travel far and wide to take part.  Huge thanks must also go to Stewart Wallace who did an exceptional job of judging.”
