Society’s Annual AGM
Glendale Agricultural Society celebrated its 125th Anniversary year in Style.
The Glendale Agricultural Society (GAS) has announced its annual AGM will take place on Tuesday 24th April at the Tankerville Arms Hotel, Wooler, starting at 7:30pm. The annual AGM rounds off what has been a fantastic year which celebrated and marked the milestone of the Society’s 125th anniversary.
Throughout the last twelve months a number of initiatives were held to mark the 125th anniversary milestone. At this year’s Glendale Show, GAS teamed up with local sawmill, A & J Scott Ltd, and presented 125 Glendale school children with oak saplings to take home. They were asked to plant and watch them grow into mighty Glendale oaks for future generations to enjoy. The annual Glendale Show was a huge success and saw the launch of “The Glendale Agricultural Society Lifetime Achievement Award”, sponsored by The Glendale Gateway Trust. This was presented to Mrs Sue Burston.
The Society’s Multi – Award Winning Children’s Countryside day highlighted to the 1500 children who attended, the changes to farming, the countryside and rural life over the last 125 years.
To round up the year of celebration was a 125th anniversary dinner dance, which was attended by members of the committee, society members and volunteers.
Giving further details to the AGM, Rachael Tait, Secretary for GAS, said: “We have had a tremendous year in terms of marking the Society’s important milestone and during the AGM we will review the highlights of the year.”
“The area of Glendale itself is relatively small, however in terms of what the area produces, there really is a range of globally recognised brands, with many products being exported throughout the world. That is why we have chosen “Living off the Land” as our theme this year.”
GAS has over 300 members, many of whom give an enormous amount of their time to help organise and steward at the area’s two key rural events, the Children’s Countryside Day and the Glendale Show. It also promotes a programme of its own events throughout the year including quizzes and social evenings.
