There’s No Show without Neil

The Glendale Agricultural Society appoint fencer Neil Tait as its Show Director

Local fencer Neil Tait has just been appointed as Show Director for the Annual Glendale Agricultural Show, which takes place every August Bank Holiday Monday at its traditional showfield home, just south of Wooler on the A697. The Show Director is responsible for the infrastructure of the whole event, from mapping and planning, to organising and construction of pens and fences, and pitches for stands and attractions. To adapt a well know phrase: “There’s no Show without Neil!”

Neil tells us: “I am one of three show directors who have to put up the whole of the show field. This means we organise the team and the materials needed, map out the field for rings, exhibitors and stands, ring fence the field 28 days before due to licensing restrictions, and also make sure we have the necessary licenses for all the public stands and events that are taking place. It’s a heck of a lot of work over the year.”

Neil, 49, is a busy fencing contractor in Glendale, has worked on the show for 4 years. As an individual and a businessman he has for many years been a Show supporter. He has sponsored events, and shown sheep, and been involved and attended the show from being a young boy when his dad showed Blue-faced Leicesters.

In addition to his new role, which was announced officially at the Society’s AGM a few days ago, Neil has also been appointed to the committee of the Children’s Countryside Day. In the light of his wholesale commitment to the Society and its many events, no one will ever be able to accuse him of sitting on the fence!

He adds: “I’m a community person, and the Glendale Show is the biggest annual community event we’ve got, so I’m naturally both pleased and honoured to be given the role.”

Neil will be part of a very busy management team who all contribute to the most successful Show event in North Northumberland with over 15000 visitors a year. This also includes Nick Hargreave Ronald Barber, Rachael Tait, James Dixon, Margaret Brown, Robert Brown, Tom Comber, Euan Gibson, Andrew Walton, Philippa Shell and Andrew Reed.
